Roy Ellen

Roy Ellen is Emeritus Professor and Anthropology and Human Ecology at the University of Kent, where he founded the Ethnobotany graduate programme and the Centre for Biocultural Diversity. Most of his ethnobotanical research has been in the Moluccan islands of eastern Indonesia, in Brunei and in East Kent. In 2003 he was elected a Fellow of the British Academy and in 2017 received the Distinguished Economic Botanist award from the Society for Economic Botany. He is currently holder of a Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship to complete his work on 'Nuaulu ethnobotanical cognition and knowledge'.
