Hernando Echeverri-Sanchez

Hernando Echeverri Sanchez is a Colombian anthropologist with a Ph.D. from UCL, specialising in human ecology. His main interests are human-plant interactions in western Amazonia, ethnobiology, and the anthropology of sustainability. His area of focus is the trade of medicinal biodiversity from the lowlands to the highlands in the Andean foothills. Hernando has worked with indigenous, mestizo and Afro-Colombian healers from the region of Putumayo, Colombia. He also has an interest in shamanic plants such as Yagé, Yopó, and Mambe. In particular, Hernando has worked with shamans from the multiethnic network Gente del Yage, who use and exchange similar practices and beliefs.
