Lewis is a social anthropologist and ethnobotanist of Amazonia who lectures at University College London (UCL). He completed his doctorate in Anthropology at the University of Oxford in 2015. His doctoral thesis, a product of eighteen months of fieldwork with the Makushi people of Amazonian Guyana, concerned people-plant relationships in the indigenous culture and cosmology. Lewis’ research interests include ethnobotany, ethno-ornithology, multispecies ethnography, shamanism, and the politics of conservation. His “life” interests include gardening, birdwatching, and songwriting.
